Carry speed in fourth. Turn in and press Square to select second directly and break rear grip. Feed in throttle, press Cross for third, and countersteer to settle the slide. Press Circle for fourth as you straighten out. You can also initiate a slide with the brake.

Cross starts or resumes from menus; during the race it only selects third. Keyboard Q / E also shift down / up. Opponents share your collision and off-road physics.
