In Automatic, brake while turning to start a drift. The following direct-gear technique applies in Manual.
Carry speed in fourth. Turn in and quickly select first with the top face button for a sharp drift, or second with the left face button for a gentler entry. Feed in throttle, select third with the bottom face button, and briefly countersteer to settle the slide. Ease the stick back as the car settles; hold throttle to carry the corner. Lift or hold stronger countersteer to end the drift, then select fourth on exit. You can also initiate a slide with the brake.
Connect a PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or compatible gamepad, then press a button with this page focused. USB, Bluetooth, and wireless receivers work when your system and browser recognize the controller. Use Controller setup below if the mapping is missing or incorrect. Rumble is enabled where the browser supports it. Choose Automatic or Manual on the main screen above the race button, in the party screen, or in pause. In Automatic, the car shifts for you and gear buttons are disabled. Manual needs no clutch. Hold the brake at a stop to reverse; press the accelerator to stop backing up and drive forward. Use the D-pad or left stick to move through menus, the bottom face button to select, and the right face button to go back. Left/right adjusts settings. During the race, face buttons select gears and D-pad up/down shifts sequentially. Use D-pad up/down, keyboard E/Q, or the on-screen +/− buttons to shift one gear at a time. Opponents share your collision and off-road physics.

To use your phone as the controller, allow motion access and tilt to steer. Acceleration and gear changes are automatic. Hold the brake with your left thumb to slow down or start a drift. Keep holding at a stop to reverse; release to drive forward.
Using a gamepad? Connect it to your phone, then press a button with the game open. It takes over automatically, with no motion access needed.
Allow motion access when prompted, then hold your phone steady to calibrate.
Lower angles make steering more sensitive. Hold the screen tilted toward you. Steering calibrates automatically when you rotate the phone or return to the game.
